Fun Fact: Dwarf Baby Tears is one of the smallest known aquarium plants and is prized for creating lush, green carpets in aquascaping. It was popularized by renowned aquascaper Takashi Amano and often used in Nature Aquarium-style layouts.
Appearance: This plant features tiny, bright green round leaves that grow densely along creeping stems. When given enough light and CO2, it forms a compact, cushion-like carpet across the substrate.
Habitat: Native to Cuba, typically found in shallow, slow-moving streams and wet rocks where it receives bright sunlight.
Aquarium Use: Ideal for creating foreground carpets and covering hardscape. When grown emersed in humid conditions, it’s also commonly used in paludariums and Wabi-Kusa arrangements.
Care: Requires stable CO2 injection, high light intensity, and a rich substrate. Without proper conditions, it can melt or grow unevenly. Consistent maintenance, trimming, and nutrient dosing are necessary to prevent it from becoming overgrown or shaded.
Propagation: Easily propagated by trimming and replanting small clumps or allowing runners to spread across the substrate.
Note: Due to its high demands, Dwarf Baby Tears is best suited for experienced aquarists or dedicated planted tank setups. When successfully established, it creates one of the most visually appealing and naturalistic scenes in an aquarium.
