COURSE OVERVIEW:

Welcome to the Clean & Maintain Public Areas in Hospitality course. This program will equip you with the skills and knowledge to maintain high standards of cleanliness, presentation, and safety across all public areas in hospitality venues while minimising disruption to guests and working in line with organisational and regulatory requirements. Throughout this course, you will learn how to select and use appropriate equipment and chemicals, plan and prepare work areas, and complete cleaning tasks methodically so that public spaces remain welcoming, hygienic, and operationally efficient.

This course begins by exploring the different types of public areas within a hospitality outlet and how these spaces shape the cleaning tasks required. You will examine entrances, lobbies, corridors, lounges, gardens, swimming pools and pool areas, car parks, driveways, and other guest-facing spaces, and consider the cleaning demands associated with each. You will then review the role of the cleaning storeroom, the organisation of supplies, and the range of manual cleaning equipment and electrically powered equipment used to service these areas. This initial focus will help you understand how public spaces are categorised, what equipment is available, and how a well-organised storeroom supports consistent, efficient cleaning operations.

You will then focus on preparing for work and verifying that all equipment is safe and ready to use before cleaning begins. You will learn how to check all equipment prior to use, why this pre-use inspection is critical for safety and reliability, and what specifically needs to be checked on manual tools and powered machines. You will explore how to prepare a work area, including setting up signage, planning workflows, and arranging equipment so that tasks can be completed efficiently while minimising customer inconvenience. This part of the course also covers preparatory cleaning tasks such as removing obvious debris, planning around peak guest times, and using equipment correctly and safely within the framework of employer and employee OHS responsibilities.

The course then examines practical techniques for cleaning a wide range of external and high-traffic public areas so that they remain safe, attractive, and functional. You will learn how to clean public outdoor spaces such as gardens, swimming pools and pool surrounds, car parks, driveways, and hotel entrances, with attention to litter removal, surface washing, spot cleaning, and risk control for slips and trips. You will also consider how to adapt methods and equipment to different surfaces and weather conditions while maintaining professional presentation standards. This will give you a structured approach to servicing busy, visible spaces that strongly influence guests’ first impressions.

A detailed focus is then placed on glass, ceilings, surfaces, and fittings so that you can achieve a consistently high level of finish across interior public areas. You will learn how to assess glass areas to be cleaned, select appropriate equipment and chemicals for glass cleaning, and follow the steps to prepare a work site before cleaning windows, mirrors, and glass coffee tables. You will examine the correct techniques for cleaning each of these surfaces, and how to tidy the work site afterwards, including cleaning, checking, and storing equipment and chemicals used for glass tasks. You will then explore cleaning techniques for ceilings, surfaces, and fittings, including the types of ceilings and finishes encountered in hospitality, the equipment and chemicals used, work site preparation requirements, and the step-by-step methods for cleaning these features. You will also learn how to clean public bathrooms, vanity areas, public showers, toilets, and bins, and how to leave these areas tidy and ready for guest use while ensuring all equipment and chemicals are again cleaned, checked, and stored correctly.

Finally, the course builds your capability in working safely with high-level areas and closing out cleaning tasks to organisational standards. You will learn how to assess high-level areas that require cleaning, understand the types of high-level cleaning commonly required in hospitality public spaces, and select equipment that allows these tasks to be completed safely and effectively. You will explore how to prepare a work site before cleaning high-level areas, including access arrangements and safety controls, and how to tidy the work site once cleaning is complete so that there is no residual equipment, residue, or disruption for guests. You will also review how to clean, check, and store equipment and chemicals used for high-level area cleaning so that they remain safe, functional, and ready for future use.

By the end of this course, you will be able to identify and plan cleaning tasks across the full range of public areas in a hospitality outlet, prepare work areas and equipment safely, and apply appropriate techniques to outdoor spaces, glass, ceilings, surfaces, fittings, and amenities. You will understand how to minimise guest inconvenience, uphold OHS responsibilities, and leave each work site tidy and restored to service, including the correct cleaning, checking, and storage of equipment and chemicals. Most importantly, you will be equipped to contribute to consistently high standards of cleanliness, safety, and presentation in hospitality public areas, reinforcing both guest satisfaction and organisational reputation.

Finally, a Loofah That Isn't Skimpy
I’ve gone through my fair share of bath puffs, and usually, they’re pretty disappointing—either they’re super thin or they fall apart before you even get a good lather going. These Amazon Basics ones are a total breath of fresh air because they’re actually nice and full. They have that dense, fluffy mesh that makes even a tiny drop of body wash turn into a ton of bubbles, which is exactly what you want. The size is perfect, and unlike those cheap, flimsy ones, these actually have enough texture to exfoliate your skin and get it feeling smooth without being too scratchy. They also have a sturdy little rope so you can hang them up to dry easily. I honestly liked these so much that I’ve already bought them a second time. If you’re looking for a simple shower upgrade that actually does its job, you really can’t go wrong with these.

A Spa Experience at Home
I absolutely love this bath loofah—it’s one of those small upgrades that makes a big difference in my routine. The texture is just right: firm enough to exfoliate and leave my skin feeling super smooth, but still gentle so it’s not irritating. It lathers up beautifully with just a little bit of body wash, making every shower feel like a mini spa session. The quality is great—no unraveling or falling apart after multiple uses, and the loop makes it easy to hang and dry quickly. I’ve noticed my skin feels noticeably cleaner and softer since I started using it regularly. If you’re looking to elevate your shower experience, this loofah is a must-have. Affordable, durable, and refreshing—I’m definitely buying more for backups and gifts!

Good Quality!
Much larger than I expected. Good quality. I have been using for a month now and it is holding up very well. Great value too. So much better than cheap dollar store versions I have bought in the past.
