This remarkable Necklace showcases an impressive Mexican Flats and Sterling Silver Pendant by Nevada Silversmith Jim Daggett. The Mexican Flats Nugget — mined in Mexico's northern state of Sonora — is 3 inches long by 1-5/8 inches wide, and 1/2-inch in depth. The Turquoise has been set on a thick plate of rolled, Sterling Silver, and post-set (or wrapped) in 14 gauge Sterling Silver Round Wire. The post setting allows the stone to be viewed in entirety from all angles. The Pendant hangs from a custom v-shaped Sterling Silver Bail. Quite striking! We've paired the Pendant with 3 strands of color-matched gemstones. These include 4mm Bronzite Rounds, which have a glossy finish and a subtle metallic luster. The Bronzite is complemented by elegant 8mm translucent Amber Quartz, and 6.5mm Turquoise Rounds. The stones are highlighted by six 10-by-10mm Hill Tribe Silver Faceted Bicones, and 4mm Sterling Silver Rounds. The piece is finished with Sterling Silver Beads and Toggle Clasp, and adorned with a Southwest Designs Sterling Charm. The Necklace weighs 136 grams and is 20-1/4 inches long plus the Pendant, which is 3-3/4 Inches by 1-5/8 inches (the piece has about a 12-inch vertical hang).

This is a good book to read and understand how the European nations deployed their armies around the world to extract natural resources from other nations. Now, we have developing and underdeveloped nations.

Interesting book, dull period
Format: Paperback
As a Marxist historian, Hobsbawm sees the world at this time, as well as the modern world, as a playground for the forces of capitalism. He apologizes for taking a eurocentric approach to world history, while acknowledging that Europe largely determined the course of world events during this period. In spite of the title, there actually isn't much discussion of colonial empires; Hobsbawm seems more interested in how the Age of Empire affected the rulers more than the ruled. His Marxist sympathies are in evidence and at times make his conclusions a bit predictable, but some of his cultural critiques are quite brilliant. The chapter on the dilemmas posed by modern science is exceptional. Reading a book like this seems to me much more interesting than actually living in this period would have been.
