Cayenne-

It aids digestion, improves circulation, and stops bleeding from ulcers. It increases circulation which makes it an excellent carrier for herbal remedies to circulate through the whole body faster and more thoroughly. It can stop a heart attack immediately.

Alzheimer's Disease (AD)- With the failure of a series of clinical trials, the strategy of AD treatment has recently shifted to disease prevention, with clinical testing carried out in at-risk populations. In fact, our analysis suggests that one-third of AD cases worldwide are attributable to several common modifiable risk factors, most of which can be controlled by healthy dietary and lifestyle, making dietary and lifestyle intervention research hotspots. A potential therapeutic for various human diseases, such as obesity, cardiovascular diseases, hypertension, and atherosclerosis, which are established risk factors for AD. Taken together, the current and previous findings suggest capsaicin may prevent AD by targeting multiple pathways that drive the pathogenesis. *ncbi

2019 Italian study that included 22,811 adults found that regular chili pepper consumption was associated with a lower risk of death from heart disease.

A large 2021 review of four observational studies found that chili pepper consumption was associated with a reduced risk of death from all causes.

Other studies have also linked chili pepper consumption to a lower risk of all-cause mortality.

Production of endorphins, the body's natural painkillers, and mood stabilisers. Cayenne is therefore considered a useful ingredient for those suffering from depression and anxiety, although it is not a replacement for medical help.

Used in Korean medicines as an oral remedy for stomach problems, poor appetite, and circulatory problems, applied to the skin for arthritis and muscle pain. Ointments and creams with capsaicin are used to relieve pain from arthritis and shingles (Herpes zoster). powerful pain-relieving properties when applied to the skin. It reduces the amount of substance P, a chemical that carries pain messages to the brain, in your body. The pain messages no longer reach the brain, and you feel relief. Capsaicin is often recommended for: Osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, as well as joint or muscle pain from fibromyalgia or other causes. Nerve pain from shingles and other painful skin conditions (postherpetic neuralgia) that happens even after the skin blisters have gone away, after surgery, such as a mastectomy or an amputation, nerve damage in the feet or legs from diabetes, peripheral neuropathy. However, capsaicin doesn't seem to work for peripheral neuropathy from HIV. Low back pain. Several studies suggest capsaicin cream can reduce lower back pain. In extremely diluted it may help treat ear infections (otitis media). Preliminary studies suggest that capsaicin may help treat heartburn being investigated for treating circulatory problems (for example, heart disease from atherosclerosis or plaque blocking the arteries to the heart) and reducing the risk of an irregular heart rhythm. It has anti-tumor properties and plays a role in the treatment of certain cancers including colon, prostate, and gastrointestinal cancers.

Brahmi-

Memory improvement, insomnia, epilepsy, and as an anxiolytic. Many clinical studies demonstrate improvements in verbal learning, delayed word recall, memory acquisition, and anxiety reduction with Bacopa. *ncbi.gov

  • Brain: age-related brain degeneration can be delayed with Brahmi.

Considered a brain tonic for people of all ages and genders. Whether you are a student trying to ace your exam or a corporate professional trying to stay focused at work, taking Brahmi as a supplement can help increase focus and support brain function. It has also been proven to show therapeutic effects against brain degeneration caused by Alzheimer's disease.

Brahmi (Bacopa Monnieri) Studies:

Powerful Antioxidant:

Research suggests that damage caused by free radicals is linked to many chronic conditions, such as heart disease, diabetes, and certain cancers. Brahmi contains powerful compounds that may have antioxidant effects. For example, bacosides, the main active compounds in Brahmi, have been shown to neutralize free radicals and prevent fat molecules from reacting with free radicals. When fat molecules react with free radicals, they undergo a process called lipid peroxidation. Lipid peroxidation is linked to several conditions, such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and other neurodegenerative disorders. Brahmi may help prevent damage caused by this process. For example, an older study showed that treating rats with dementia with Brahmi reduced free radical damage and reversed signs of memory impairment.

Inflammation is your body’s natural response to help heal and fight disease. Chronic, low-level inflammation has been linked to many chronic conditions, including cancer, diabetes, and heart and kidney disease. In test-tube studies, Brahmi appeared to suppress the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines, which are molecules that stimulate an inflammatory immune response.*ncbi.gov Also, in test-tube and animal studies, it inhibited enzymes, such as cyclooxygenases, caspases, and lipoxygenases — all of which play key roles in inflammation and pain.*ncbi.gov

What’s more, in animal studies, Bacopa monnieri had anti-inflammatory effects comparable to those of diclofenac and indomethacin — two nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs commonly used to treat inflammation

Enhanced Brain Function

May help enhance brain function. One study in mice showed that supplementing with Bacopa monnieri improved their spatial learning and ability to retain information. The same study also found that it increased dendritic length and branching. Dendrites are parts of nerve cells in the brain that are closely linked to learning and memory.*ncbi

Additionally, a 12-week study in 46 healthy adults observed that taking 300 mg of Bacopa monnieri daily significantly improved the speed of processing visual information, learning rate, and memory, compared with the placebo treatment.

Another 12-week study in 60 older adults found that taking either 300 mg or 600 mg of Bacopa monnieri extract daily improved memory, attention, and the ability to process information, compared with the placebo treatment. *ncbi

ADHD

One study in 31 children aged 6–12 years found that taking 225 mg of Bacopa monnieri extract daily for 6 months significantly reduced ADHD symptoms, such as restlessness, poor self-control, inattention, and impulsivity in 85% of the children. *ncbi

A more recent study of 112 males aged 6-14 years with ADHD found cognitive, mood, and sleep benefits among those taking Bacopa monnieri, but saw no effect on behavioral outcomes. *ncbi

Anxiety & Stress

Brahmi may help prevent anxiety and stress. It’s considered an adaptogenic herb, meaning that it increases your body’s resistance to stress.
Research suggests that Brahmi helps reduce stress and anxiety by elevating your mood and reducing levels of cortisol, a hormone that is closely linked to stress levels. One rodent study showed that Brahmi had anti-anxiety effects comparable to those of lorazepam (benzodiazepine), a prescription medication used to treat anxiety. Two 12-week human studies found that taking 300 mg of Bacopa monnieri daily significantly reduced anxiety and depression scores in adults, compared with the placebo treatment.A more recent human study found taking 500 mg Bacopa monnieri twice daily for 4 weeks reduced depression, anxiety and stress.

Cancer

Test-tube and animal studies have found that Brahmi may have anticancer properties. Bacosides, the active class of compounds in Bacopa monnieri, have been shown to kill aggressive brain tumor cells and inhibit the growth of breast, brain, and colon cancer cells in test-tube studies.*ncbi
Additionally, Bacopa monnieri induced breast cancer cell death in animal and test-tube studies.*ncbi Research suggests that the high levels of antioxidants and compounds like bacosides in Bacopa monnieri may be responsible for its cancer-fighting properties

  • Liver FunctionThe liver is the most crucial organ, it energies and mobilizes toxins out of the body. Brahmi helps promote liver function and supports natural detoxification.
  • Internal Swelling- Swelling in the brain is alarming and can be life-threatening. Taking Brahmi along with the prescribed treatment may help reduce systemic swelling in the brain.
  • Normalize blood pressure helps improve endothelial function, which handles the constriction and dilation of the blood vessels to regulate blood pressure. It also enables the body to increase the utilization of nitric acid, another positive factor for blood pressure.
  • ADHD is a neurological disorder characterized by hyperactivity and lack of attention. They share common impulsive behaviors and restlessness patterns. These patterns and behaviors can often become problematic. Brahmi has a calming effect on the brain. It helps reduce hyperactivity and enables focus.
  • Sleepcan also help improve sleep patterns and reduce insomnia by reducing hyperactivity and stress.
  • Hair & Skin- Brahmi strengthens the roots, treats split ends, and prevents dandruff. Brahmi is a highly recommended herb for treating various skin conditions while retaining a youthful glow.

Schisandra-

Schisandra is used for a wide range of health-related issues and scientific data from both animal and human studies that indicate its positive effect on several conditions and diseases. These include:

Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease-A 2017 found that Schisandrin B had a beneficial, positive effect on Alzheimer’s disease. Because of its ability to block formation of excess amyloid beta peptides in the brain, components responsible for forming amyloid plaque, a substance found in the brains of people with Alzheimer’s disease.*ncbi Another study indicates that Schisandra may be effective against both Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. This is due to its anti-inflammatory, neuroprotective effect upon microglial cells in the brain.*ncbi

Liver Disease-

A 2013 animal study found that it to have strong, antioxidant effect against toxic damage in livers of mice. Also found to be effective against liver damage in people with both acute and chronic hepatitis, a liver disease. Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) can be the result of numerous liver diseases, such as hepatitis and cirrhosis. There’s more fatty acids and inflammation of the liver in NAFLD. Researchers found that Schisandra reduced these fatty acids in mice. It also acted like an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agent.

Menopause-

A 2016 study analyzed the effects of Schisandra extract on women with menopausal symptoms. Researchers determined that Schisandra is effective at alleviating symptoms including hot flashes, sweating, and heart palpitations. *ncbi

Depression

Another recent study found that Schisandra extract had an antidepressant effect on mice. Additional studies, run by the same lead researcher, solidified this finding. However, Schisandra and its potential effect on depression hasn’t been extensively studied in humans.

Stress-

Schisandra may have adaptogenic properties. This means that it’s able to help the body resist the effects of anxiety and stress, plus bolster the body’s defenses against disease.

Macuna Pruriens (A bean that works synergistically with Ashwaganda)-

Parkinson's Disease-

There are numerous studies demonstrating its positive effect in treating Parkinson's. Mucuna pruriens (Fabaceae) is an established herbal drug used for the management of male infertility, nervous disorders, and also as an aphrodisiac. It has been shown that its seeds are potentially of substantial medicinal importance. The ancient Indian medical system, Ayurveda, traditionally used M. pruriens, even to treat such things as Parkinson's disease. M. pruriens has been shown to have anti-parkinson and neuroprotective effects, which may be related to its anti-oxidant activity. In addition, anti-oxidant activity of M. pruriens has been also demonstrated in vitro by its ability to scavenge DPPH radicals and reactive oxygen species.*ncbi

Increase Serotonin-

Unlike synthetic levodopa treatment, Mucuna pruriens cotyledon powder treatment significantly restored the endogenous levodopa, dopamine, norepinephrine and serotonin content in the substantia nigra.

Here are 12 health benefits of mucunapruriens supplements, supported by scientific research:

3.5 stars, A little boring to say the least.
Format: Kindle
Wow so I'm not sure where to begin on this one. This was a very different take on the legend of Arthur and Excalibur. This is told from the point of view of Morgan the sister of Arthur. Honestly the first 50% of this book is world building and character building which unfortunately was super boring for me. Morgan to me was a female MC that had a hard time in believing in herself. Sometimes taking too long to understand exactly what was going on around her. Draven was also a different male MC, like I couldn't put my finger on him and what he was all about. It was not until the last 10% of the book did we get some answers on the mystery that is Draven. The other 50% of the book centered around this big journey with everyone having a different motive. We see a spark of magic around this time that had me excited but then we never expanded upon that and what it could mean for the female MC. I feel like I want to read the second book just to see where this goes, but the spice was probably a 2 out of 5. Side characters are ok, Lancelet was fun but I almost felt like I wanted more.

A bewitching retelling of Arthurian legend!
Format: Kindle
In a land where the Fae have nearly become only a legend and those who still posses even a morsel of the blood are few and far between, Morgan finds herself cast aside by most of society due to her rumored half-Fae lineage, including her brother, King Arthur. With the kingdom at the brink of war, Arthur entrusts her with a quest to retrieve a Fae weapon of legendary power: the sword of Perun, Excalibur. Accompanied by men she loathes, Captain Kairos Draven and Ragnar Whitehorn, she embarks on her long and unbeknownst perilous journey, only to find that things she once believed to be myth are in fact very real. With devastating twists, omitted truths, witty banter and fierce action, Queen of Roses leaves you begging to know more about the secrets of Aercanum! Wow, wow, wow! Going into this story, I did not realize that it was going to be a retelling of Arthurian legend, especially not one with a fantastical twist! The unique spin almost gave me The Witcher vibes and I think adding Fae into the mix was quite interesting. I knew the basics of the legend but after reading this book, it has piqued my interest and makes me want to learn more about it. My attention was snatched as soon as I finished the prologue and I knew that I was going to devour this story. I truly enjoyed the gender swaps and even how Arthur was portrayed as villainous. Morgan’s past and even her parts of her present is absolutely heartbreaking, and I felt for her at times. I can only recall one other book that made me hate characters the way I despised Florian and Arthur, leaving me with my blood boiling and feeling disgusted. Even after finishing the book, Draven is still a mystery to me and I cannot figure out how to feel about him. I guess they just means that the author did an excellent job at conveying each character’s persona! The rich world building and imagery made it easy for me to visualize the places that the group visited along their journey. I am truly engulfed in this story and I cannot wait to see wait fate awaits Morgan and how the Fae will be even more incorporated in the next book!. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Enchanting
Format: Kindle
"Queen of Roses" by Briar Boleyn is a delightful and refreshing reimagining of the classic tale of King Arthur, with a captivating twist that places the spotlight on Morgan, a character who has often been overshadowed in traditional retellings. Boleyn's creative decision to shift the narrative perspective to Morgan breathes new life into the story, offering readers an intriguing and compelling look at the Arthurian world from an entirely different angle. One of the most commendable aspects of this book is its incorporation of Fae elements, which adds an enchanting layer of magic and mystery to the already familiar Arthurian setting. Boleyn skillfully weaves the world of the Fae into the narrative, creating a captivating backdrop against which the events of the story unfold. This addition not only adds depth to the world-building but also provides ample opportunities for twists and turns that keep readers thoroughly engrossed. However, while the book boasts numerous strengths, it does have one noticeable flaw: the characterization of Morgan. While it is reasonable to create a flawed and complex protagonist, it appears that at times, Morgan's character becomes overly difficult and hard to relate to. Her persistently negative perception of one of the main male characters, who is a potential love interest, despite his efforts to support and assist her, may come across as somewhat irrational and could test the patience of some readers. Striking a balance between a strong, independent character and one who can recognize genuine support and affection could have enhanced the overall reader experience. Nonetheless, the allure of "Queen of Roses" lies in its innovative approach to the Arthurian legend and its skillful blending of fantasy elements into a familiar narrative. Boleyn's evocative prose draws readers into a world where magic, destiny, and fate entwine, leaving us eager to uncover the mysteries that unfold within the pages. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

An action-packed dark romantasy
Format: Kindle
I loved this book! Queen of Roses is an Arthurian-inspired dark romantasy that is the first book in the Blood of Fae series. The story follows Morgan, the princess of Camelot who is rumored to be part fae. Fueled by prejudiced hatred and a mistrust of fae blood, Morgan’s abusive father strips her of her birthright and hands it to her half-brother, Arthur. Instead of becoming queen, Morgan is commanded to join the temple of the goddesses when she comes of age. However, Arthur turns into a psychopathic, power-hungry, fae-hating king as he ages. He develops malevolent plans and commands Morgan to find an ancient weapon with legendary power. Although Morgan is wary of Arthur’s intentions, she embraces the opportunity to go on a journey and potentially change her fate. The story picks up from there and we follow Morgan on her quest to find the ancient relic. It’s full of high stakes adventure, mystery, tension, banter, forced proximity, hidden magic, self discovery, and betrayal. This first installment of the series intricately develops the world building and character development. There’s little romance in this book, but it is evident that it is a slow burn that will continue to develop throughout the remainder of the series. Overall, I loved the world building, the epic fantasy, Morgan’s journey of self discovery, and all of the twists and turns that set the stage for the future installments. I can’t wait to see what happens next!

Arthurian Fae Quest…say less.
Format: Kindle
A fae centered Arthurian tale unlike any I’ve read so far. The author did a great job at descriptive world building, with scenes easily playing out in my minds eye. There was plenty of action, suspense, and even a touch of horror. An enemies to lovers, slow burn romance, a quest, with plot twist and turns aplenty. There was a love triangle, which I’m not usually a fan of but, it played out well in this story line. The FMC, Morgan Pendragon, was so blatantly naïve, yet I typically expect as much in a ‘book one’ of a series, especially one that features a fairly sheltered princess. I was happy to read that in spite of this, she still showed a strong sense of morals, fire, and spine. Now our MMC? Kairos Draven, aka Void’s Edge. Oh, how I’m a sucker for a smoking’ hot grumpy warrior alpha with a witty mouth, and a strong sense of “touch her and die” attitude, so you know who held all my cards. That ending? Just made me swoon all the harder. Now add a battlecat that rivals the size of a horse…and well Ms. Briar Boleyn you have well and truly stolen my heart. I’m excited to see where the story goes from here, and follow along to see more of the characters growth. I went into this story fairly blind, and I think I enjoyed it all the more because of it. Once the story got going, it had me in an absolute chokehold and it was difficult to put down.
