Arundinaria gigantea is commonly known as giant river cane. This plant is of cultural and economic significance as it was once harvested to be used for basket making. There are many human and ecological uses for this species. Many species of native insects also utilize this plant.

Canebrakes were once very common here in the southeast. The cane species covered large acreage sometimes the entire width of a state itself! The ecosystem has been reduced greatly in the land area it covers compared to modern day. 

Plants are 1-2 foot tall rooted divisions.

Cultivation Guidelines:
Light: Bright direct light for most of the day.
Restricted Range: Prefers freshwater wetlands, bogs, wet soil. 
Growing Medium: Native soils.
