This in-depth narrative history of the interactions between English settlers and American Indians during the Virginia colony's first century explains why a harmonious coexistence proved impossible. While the romanticized story of the Jamestown colony has been retold many times, the events following the marriage of Pocahontas and John Rolfe are less well known. The peace and goodwill did not last; within one hundred years of the English settlers' arrival in Virginia, the Indian population had been reduced by more than 90 percent through warfare, disease, and indiscriminate extermination.
Britain's first successful settlements in America occurred more than four hundred years ago. Not surprisingly, the historical accounts of these events have often contained inaccuracies. This compelling study of colonial Virginia, based on the latest research, sheds new light on the tensions between the English and the American Indians and clarifies the facts about several storied relationships.
In Lethal Encounters, Alfred A. Cave examines why the Anglo settlers were unable to establish a peaceful and productive relationship with the region's native inhabitants and explains how the deep prejudices harbored by both whites and Indians, the incompatibility of their economic and social systems, and the leadership failures of protagonists such as John Smith, Powhatan, Opechancanough, and William Berkeley contributed to this breakdown.

Another quality Quick Start book
Format: Paperback
Haven't gotten that far into the book yet, but so far the material is good.
IMO, the book would be far better if it had a spiral binding like the Python Quick Start books I bought. Programming type books are much easier and better to use when they lay flat.
This would probably make the book more expensive to purchase, but would be well worth it.
The contents of the book are well laid out starting with simple basic topics and progressing through the more advanced ones. The chapters on Asynchronous JavaScript and JQuery were, IMHO, light in the amount of information provided. The book is designed/written to provide a "quick start" on JS, but I think that there could have been more details provided for these two topics.
All in all this book provides an adequate introduction to doing JS coding.
Any plans on doing an advanced Javascript book to cover topics like map and other advanced programming constructs?

Perfect book for beginners
Format: Paperback
I started designing my website using another book that covered HTML, CSS and JavaScript. I got pretty good with HTML, passable with CSS but could not get my head around JavaScript. Little code snippets that illustrated various functions just didn’t do it.
This book is totally different. Using downloadable example code and the free Visual Studio Code editor, the author takes you step by step through slowly constructing a complete JavaScript-driven website. I found writing and debugging my own code to greatly enhance my understanding of the material. And while I’m yet to get to that stage, being able to do full-stack development using Node.js and Ajax is a major plus.
This is the perfect book for beginners wanting to learn JavaScript. Highly recommended.

A great book you’ll need every day for your entire web developer career!
Format: Paperback
This book is great! I have been working on becoming a web developer and this book is a major help in filling in the gaps from other resources I’ve used. Many other resources don’t really explain why some things work the way they do, but this book explains it all! You’ll always want to have it around because it’s great to go back and reference when you’re having trouble. I highly recommend all of the Quick Start books! I’ve got the HTML/CSS, JavaScript, Python, and SQL books that I use daily! If you want to become a web developer or programmer, start with the HTML/CSS book and then branch off from there. You won’t regret it! They are all very beginner friendly and easy to understand. 💙
