Porest's fourth long-player, Modern Journal of Popular Savagery is a damning collection of parallel realities told in song and sound. Following 2006's masterful Tourrorists, MJoPS pits post-globalized hate pop, cabalistic text-to-speech drama and violent tape music against soapbox anthems and swirling barbed-wire psychedelia - sometimes within the same track. The result: a terrifying and ridiculous audio shakedown that both avoids and completely indulges the inherent trappings of art and politics. Fuzzed out guitars and keyboards, epic modulated grooves, "samples" and far-out fucking field recordings index the colonization of our consciousness. You're already dead - and none of your intellectual friends can save you. Guests include Richard Bishop (Sun City Girls), Peter Conheim (Negativland), and Jake Rodriguez. Recorded between California, Syria, Vietnam and points in between. Across decades, Porest (aka Mark Gergis) has issued a trail of confounding agitprop sound art, tilted pop, diabolical radio dramas and carefully rearranged realities on the Abduction, Seeland and Resipiscent labels. Porest's blatant embezzlement of human syntax and cultural misunderstanding broadcasts vital mixed messages. Collaborations have included: Aavikko (Finland), Sun City Girls, and Negativland (USA) among others. Gergis was a co-founder of the long-running experimental Bay Area music and performance collective Mono Pause - as well as it's offshoot Neung Phak, performing inspired renditions of southeast Asian musics. Since 2003, with the Sublime Frequencies label, an ethnographic music and film collective out of Seattle, Washington - and more recently, with his own record label - Sham Palace, Gergis has shared decades of research and scores of archived international music, film footage and sound recordings acquired during extensive travels in the Middle East, South East Asia and elsewhere.

Great for aggressive chewers - Great for clean teeth
I never thought these would stand up to my 60lb pittie puppy's chewing. But they are far and away her favorite toy and are holding up beautifully. One squeaker insert bit the dust -- which is not bad since it gives us one silent one. But otherwise they are holding up superbly to her powerful jaws. We have tried a lot of toys. So far, all the "for aggressive chewers" toys have been torn apart within days if we are lucky -- usually it's minutes. But these balls show little-to-no sign of wear. The squeakers are very loud which she loves can get a bit tiresome. So, as I mentioned, having one silent one is a great option. And she really likes the texture. She loves them so much, we bought a second set and will probably buy a third to have in reserve. (We are realistic and don't expect them to last forever.) All I have to say is "where's spiky ball" and she instantly stops what she is doing and goes on the hunt. A great buy!! (NOTE: It's been almost three months and one is just beginning to show some damage. Given that she plays with them non-stop, they've showed amazing durability. And everyone comments on how clean and beautiful her teeth are. I don't brush them or give her dental treats. So it has to be these balls!!)

Good sturdy ball for aggressive chewer

Nice heavy duty ball that my 7 yr old pitbull can chew on and not destroy it in 2 minutes. Wish that could get 3 for the cost but whatever. Nice bright colors . Good size that he won't choke on it .

Great ball but poor squeaked design

My Rottie loves these balls. The ball lasts a long time even though he plays hard and chews them. My biggest complaint is the squeaker disconnects easily from inside the ball, the glue does not hold! We have bought many of these balls because eventually the area where the squeaker is attached comes away from the ball leaving an open whole that causes the ball to eventually developed a long crack at which point it no longer is able to be thrown nor is is fun for him any longer.

Well made and great fun for our Pittie

My pittie loves these! They are way thicker than others. He has learned how to chew on the spikes. Seems like a good teeth cleaning too. Yes, the squeaker breaks! That is a great thing!! With his active chewing, that sound was driving us crazy after a while.
