Six Questions Your Sylvan Learning Center Franchise Financial Model Must Answer

We built this franchise unit financial model using our own research on supplemental education centers. Key assumptions like the 11% royalty, $5,500 monthly rent, and $36,900 franchise fee are pre-populated with researched data specific to this unit and are fully editable. The model tracks how EBITDA grows from $114,000 to $544,000 over five years based on Tutoring and STEM revenue streams. Data beats gut feel every time.

When does the unit turn a profit?

The unit turns a profit quickly, reaching break-even in January 2026. This assumes you manage the 16% total fee load while scaling revenue from $675,000 in year one to $1.4 million by year five. Profitability is a function of throughput.

Boost Unit Profitability

  • Maximize student throughput
  • Optimize tutor scheduling
  • Upsell STEM programs
[dynamic_pic9]

How much capital is required?

Launch requires roughly $213,900 in total investmnet. This covers the $80,000 build-out, $30,000 for computers and tablets, and the initial $36,900 franchise fee, plus a healthy cash buffer to handle the $1,071 minimum cash requirement. Know your nut before you sign the lease.

Primary Capital Uses

  • Leasehold Improvements: $80,000
  • Franchise Fee: $36,900
  • Computers and Tablets: $30,000
[dynamic_pic10]

What is the expected return?

Investors can expect a 3-year payback period on the initial investment. The model projects an Internal Rate of Return (IRR) of 6.1% and a Return on Equity (ROE) of 1.32, which is steady for an education franchise financial projection. ROI is the ultimate scoreboard.

Key Return Metrics

  • 3-Year Payback Period
  • 6.1% Internal Rate of Return
  • 1.32 Return on Equity
[dynamic_pic11]

Where is the break-even point?

Monthly break-even is reached in month one, provided you hit the $300,000 year-one tutoring target. The primary driver is student volume; with $5,500 in rent and $11,000 in base salaries, you need high throughput to cover fixed costs. Watch the fixed costs like a hawk.

Levers for Faster Break-Even

  • High-margin STEM programs
  • Pre-enrollment marketing campaigns
  • Optimized tutor-to-student ratios
[dynamic_pic12]

What is the cash runway?

The lowest cash point is $1,071 in June 2026. This tight window means you must manage tutor hiring carefully, as the FTE count grows from 4.0 to 6.0 over the five-year period to support modeling revenue for supplemental education centers. Cash is oxygen for a new center.

Protecting Your Cash

  • Phase furniture purchases
  • Negotiate rent abatement
  • Monitor hourly tutor labor
[dynamic_pic13]

How do scenarios impact results?

Estimating profitability for K-12 learning centers requires looking at multiple scenarios. A High case with better student retention can push year-5 EBITDA past $544,000, while a Low case with 20% less revenue would significantly strain the $1,071 cash floor. Hope is not a strategy; scenarios are.

Hitting the High Case

  • Local PTA partnerships
  • Student referral incentives
  • High-ticket test prep bootcamps

This toy will not hold up
Size: Dog Rope Toy - M
I bought this for my heavy chewer. The plastic pieces lasted about 15 minutes. She is an Italian Mastiff, but she is only 7 months old. I expected more from a toy that was rated as 'tough'.

Best and toughest dog toy on the market 4 all breeds and sized dogs
Size: Large, Size: Large
Now i know this doesnt appear to be good based off the photos but hear me out. My pitbull (and any pitbull owner will most likley know the same struggle with chew toys) is an extrememly tough ans agressive chewer! Every toy i would purchase for him from rubber ones to rope ones, enormous raw hides, oversized balls thinking it would be hard for him to bite believing that would increase its life, it did not. None of the toys lasted for more than a few HOURS!!! And that was when he was being easy with them! I was on the line of stopping biying him toys and letting him just chew sticks, but then one day in a coversation with my plumber and familt friend he mentioned trying kong brand dog toys. I didnt have anything to lose besides more money and an hour of entertainment for my dog so i decided to try them. I bought 3 different kong brand toys. A tug of war one that was rope with kong rubber grip handled ends, a weird ball like toy that was able to add peanut butter in a small hole and this toy. Amazed the tug of war toy(handles only) even though fairly thin lasted over 3 days!! And thats huuuuge for him with toys. Then the little peanut butter ball thing lasted about a week! I was sold. But then he finally got to try this ball with tug of war handles that contains a tennis ball when it finally is destroyed as a bonus toy and it even squeeks and the swueeker was even guarded by the rubber so it wasnt crushed immediatley! Now afyer seeing the picture of said ball it is destroyed now but it lasted many tug of wars with him and him gnawinf on it for hours every day. The kicker is i bought it roughly around september 16th, it is now JANUARY 21st!!!!! The ball has now lasted him approximately 4months 5days! Thats an insane increse of chew life for any pitbull especially mine. And it ximes in 2 sizes. The large is a little bigger than a large cantelope or slightly smaller than a basketball. And they have a smaller version for small breed heavy chewers!! I couldnt be more pleased with this purchase and will definatley be ordering 3 more ASAP considering his prob only has another week or 2 left. The only negatives are 1, when they do chew off the handles tou cant play tug of war any more and 2 that when they finally get into the main cavity where they can actually start chewing off little bits of it they emd up all over the place, bunchesmof little rubber nubs but its easy to clean. So if you have an extremely heavy chewer as i do and are looking for a toy that is worth the money and will last your dog a good time and that they will love(my dogs fav toy hes ever had) and u want it to squeek and have a bonus toy inside of it to hold them over til the next one arrives when they ruin it, then trust me! BUY KONG CHEW TOYS. specifically THIS TOY!! Best dog brand and toy on the market. Ajd its safe and if im not mistaken harmful chemical and bpa free so ur pups can chew safely. And it cleans their teeth as a bonus because of the tough rubber!! Its so worth it. only recommendation. Buy atleast 1 large 1 and one small one if u have a medium-large dog. If their small then probably only the small one or any other kong toy. If they're light chewers u probably will mever have to buy another chew toy again! Its that good and strong yet still flexible enough to squeek it!! Hope this review helps you and encourages u to buy this toy and brand over any other!!!

Purrrfect for a Pitbull or Am Staff Terrier
Size: Large, Size: Large
Large size Dog: Am Staff about 50-55 lbs She ruin all her toys in less than 3-5 minutes except this one. Again, we use this toys with guidance and support. Cons: Definitely built to last but must not be left unattended because we all know what our pitbull and Am Staff is capable of doing with their teeth. It has many feature, squeaky sections the sensory of the ball inside, weighted, and puncture proof, top and bottom option to carry this dog during a fetch game. Easy to clean. Cons: if left unattended this is not a chewing proof toy for 6-8 hours. That is not what is made for. This is an engagement toy you have to do with your fur friend.

Entertaining and durable
Size: Large
Great toy and quality. My dog that was a bit of a ruffian with his toys loved this toy. It lasted through his wild days so I bought my current baby one. Unfortunately she hates it. She wants the ball trapped inside but hates the sound of the outer and won't go near it or even let it touch her. Granted she is a bit...eccentric. All larger dogs I have ever seen with one love it. It is very durable. Really serious chewers may need supervision but average big chewers should be fine.

It is surviving a Mal Pitty and Shepherd
Size: Large
Two handles for them to carry with. Squeaky toy that my shepherd Mal or Pitty hasn’t gotten out so far after five weeks. Plays with it constantly. Starting to see small chunks come out but longest lasting most played with toy they’ve ever had.
