In the world of serial communications, visibility is power. The B+B SmartWorx Serial RS-232 9-Pin Data Tap is designed for engineers who need to observe and log RS-232 data streams without disturbing the flow of information between host and device. This compact data tap sits inline with your existing serial cable, transparently duplicating the data you care about to a secondary monitor, printer, or data logger. Whether you’re debugging a stubborn interface, validating a new device, or archiving communications for compliance, this 9-pin data tap provides a reliable, hands-on solution for real-time monitoring and analysis. It is built to support classic RS-232 signaling on standard 9-pin connectors, delivering a straightforward, no-fuss approach to monitoring that keeps your primary link pristine while giving you an exact, real-time copy of the data stream for evaluation and troubleshooting.

Key to its versatility is the ability to configure how you monitor the data. The data tap models 9PCDT and 232CDT feature dipswitches that allow you to select which signals to monitor. You can choose to watch the main Transmit (TX) line, the main Receive (RX) line, or both, giving you granular insight into the RX/TX traffic. This flexibility makes it ideal for a wide range of applications—from industrial automation and point-of-sale systems to custom data acquisition setups. The device supports standard RS-232 signaling across common baud rates, parity settings, and data formats, so it integrates with a broad spectrum of equipment without requiring specialized adapters or drivers. With its straightforward, inline design, technicians can quickly deploy the tap, observe live data, and verify that each device in the chain is communicating correctly, all while maintaining uninterrupted operation of the primary connection.

Designed with reliability in mind, the B+B SmartWorx data tap presents a sturdy, compact enclosure that travels well in lab benches and field deployments. Because it’s a passive tap, it mirrors the serial data stream without introducing noticeable latency or timing shifts. This ensures that the primary connection remains unaffected while you collect a faithful copy for your secondary device. The 9-pin RS-232 interface is a classic, widely supported standard, making this tap compatible with legacy systems and modern equipment that still rely on serial communications for critical control and data transfer. If your workflow relies on printouts, real-time event tracing, or on-screen monitoring, the Data Tap gives you a dependable, easy-to-use solution that minimizes downtime and risk during testing and production runs. The design emphasizes compatibility and ease of use, so you can quickly set up demonstrations or validation tests without specialized software or complex cabling schemes.

Beyond basic monitoring, the tap can serve as a non-intrusive auditing tool. Because it does not interfere with the original data stream, teams can log and reproduce sequences to verify behavior, diagnose timeouts, and confirm handshake events. This capability is particularly valuable when integrating new devices into an existing serial network or when maintaining compliance with industry standards that require inspection of data transactions. The user-friendly design reduces setup time, enabling IT staff and technicians to deploy monitoring quickly without diving into complex software configurations or risk-heavy hardware modifications. In environments where traceability and reproducibility matter—such as quality assurance labs, manufacturing lines, or enterprise IT networks—the Data Tap becomes an essential companion for ensuring smooth, predictable serial communications.

In addition to its core monitoring role, the Data Tap supports flexible installation scenarios. It can be integrated into fixed installations, test rigs, or portable setups with minimal cabling effort. The compact footprint means it can be tucked away in narrow enclosures or mounted on a workbench with standard hardware. The device’s construction emphasizes durability, with materials selected to withstand the rigors of production environments, field service, and laboratory testing. For teams that value uptime, this reliability translates into fewer interruptions and faster identification of problems in serial communication pathways. The Data Tap’s passive design minimizes the risk of signal distortion and interference, making it a trusted choice for engineers who need to maintain signal integrity while gaining enhanced visibility into the data stream.

  • Transparent monitoring that mirrors TX and RX data without altering signal timing or data integrity, enabling accurate analysis and logging on secondary devices.
  • Configurable dipswitches on supported models (9PCDT and 232CDT) allow targeted monitoring of the main Transmit and Receive lines, either individually or simultaneously, to suit your debugging workflow.
  • Broad compatibility with standard RS-232 equipment using 9-pin connectors, making it suitable for a wide range of legacy and modern serial devices without the need for software drivers.
  • Compact, rugged design engineered for lab benches, production floors, and field service, offering a reliable inline data tap that minimizes footprint and disruption to existing cables.
  • Plug-and-play operation with straightforward installation and immediate data visibility, helping technicians validate interfaces, troubleshoot bottlenecks, and document serial communications.

How to Install B+B SmartWorx Serial RS-232 9-Pin Data Tap

To install the data tap without disrupting your serial network, follow these straightforward steps. This process assumes a standard inline RS-232 configuration with a 9-pin D-sub connection on each end.

  • Power down all connected devices before installation to prevent electrical transients or data corruption.
  • Identify the host device (the transmitter) and the peripheral device (the receiver) in your serial chain, and determine the correct inline path where the data tap will be inserted.
  • Disconnect the serial cable from the host device and insert the data tap inline along the data path, ensuring the connector pins align with the existing pinout and that the cable remains firmly seated.
  • Connect the data tap to the designated devices using the 9-pin RS-232 connectors. Verify secure, clean connections to minimize contact resistance and potential signal loss.
  • Configure the dipswitches on the data tap if using the 9PCDT or 232CDT model to select which data lines to monitor (TX, RX, or both). Set the switches according to your monitoring needs and confirm that the primary link remains unaffected.
  • Power up the devices and perform a quick test to ensure the primary serial connection is functioning normally while the secondary device receives a faithful copy of the data stream for monitoring or logging.

This is one “under the radar” gem!!
Size: Large, Color: Coral
This is one “under the radar” gem!! Very strong internal squeaker and way tougher than it looks. My big 125lb Shepard-Husky mix gave it heck, then made it his new buddy. He’ll occasionally give it the business but on the whole, it’s surprisingly tough and my big boy loves it. Nice price!!

My Puppy Loves this Indestructible Dragon
Size: Large, Color: Pink, Size: Large, Color: Pink
My puppy (8 month old black lab mix) loves, loves, loves her dragon. She has had it for 2 months now. It is one of her favorites and gets daily rough play time. It's her go-to toy for fetch and tug games, as well as just general mouthy play. The squeaker gave out after about 4 weeks, but she would binge squeak for prolonged periods (kind of like chomping on gum) so it was almost a blessing when it went silent. She still chomps on it, but at least now I don't have to hear it. Other than the fact that it's a little grungy and bedraggled from so much loving, it is still in amazing shape. The seams and fur are all still intact. There are no visible holes, rips, or weak spots. I love Chew Guard Technology. This dragon replaced her goDog Iguana (from PetSmart) that developed a tear in the fur after about 4 months of heavy use. (It was superficial, just the outer fur layer and not the innards, but we disposed of it before she could eat more fur.) She can be pretty rough on her toys and I can never predict if any given toy will last minutes or months. The goDog stuffies definitely fall into the "months" category, even with rough daily use. Edit: The dragon lasted about 6 months of intensive, hard play before it developed a small tear in the fur. I patched it a couple times, but once my pup discovers a weak spot, it's the kiss of death for any stuffed item. We had to dispose of the dragon (so sad) to keep her from eating any more of the fur. We replaced the dragon with the goDog Chameleon, which is still going strong. I think we will go back to the dragon for our next toy because it's just so darned cute. We gave the dragon to my niece for her golden retriever puppy who is very chew-happy. That dragon is also doing well. You've just gotta love that chew-guard technology. This is one tough toy.

Indestructible Toys My Dobermans ❤️
Size: Large, Color: Mesh Green
Actually Respect! goDog Is a Lifesaver The variety of size and colors are phenomenal 😇 I have two Dobermans — serious, determined power chewers — and I’ve spent years trying to find toys that survive even a few days. I’ve tried the big brands (Kong, Goughnuts, Jolly Ball, you name it) — and while some toys last a little while, almost everything eventually ends up shredded, de-squeaked, or in pieces. goDog toys are the ONLY plush toys my Dobermans won’t destroy. We own multiple goDog toys now — dragons, dinosaurs, lizards — mostly in the large size (perfect for Dobermans), but even a few medium-sized ones hold up surprisingly well. Here’s what’s amazing: • They love them — actually carry them around, toss them, chew them gently, and squeak them happily. • They do not rip them apart — no matter how much tugging, chewing, or wrestling happens. • Large sizes are best for Dobermans (and other big breeds) — but even mediums survive for calmer play sessions. • No ripped seams, no stuffing everywhere, and no destroyed squeakers after months of use. What makes goDog toys different? The secret is their Chew Guard Technology — • A reinforced, high-strength inner mesh layer under the soft plush • Double-stitched seams • Durable yet flexible material that somehow resists punctures, tears, and brutal shaking The outside stays soft and fun, but the inside is built like armor. It’s NOT a super hard rubber or rough canvas — it still feels like a cuddle toy, but it’s engineered to survive serious chewing. Materials include: • Durable polyester plush • Chew Guard inner lining (high-tensile mesh fabric) • Reinforced stitching • Non-toxic squeakers • Safe for dogs to play with long-term Real Owner Advice: • Always size up if you have a heavy chewer — large sizes are a must for Dobermans or similarly strong breeds. • Medium sizes are fine if you supervise or your dog is more moderate with toys, but the large toys are built tougher overall. Final Thoughts: If you have big dogs, strong jaws, or just tired of wasting money on destroyed toys — goDog toys are a must. No other plush-style toy even comes close. My Dobermans will destroy almost anything… but they treat their goDog toys like treasured companions. No holes, no rips, just happy dogs. Follow me here on Amazon for more honest, dog-tested reviews! Like this review if it helped — I’ll be uploading even more proven tough toys and pet essentials soon!
