In his latest solo venture, ‘Sinister Grift’, Panda Bear, the artistic alias of Noah Lennox, delivers a compelling album that stands as both a culmination and a departure from his previous work. Over the years, Lennox’s solo projects have traversed a spectrum from deeply personal laments to vibrant electronic soundscapes. However, this album marks a new era of warmth and immediacy in his musical journey.
Recording from his home studio in Lisbon, Portugal, Lennox collaborates with Animal Collective member Josh “Deakin” Dibb. This partnership sees Lennox channeling the essence of an old-school rock band, as he personally plays nearly all the instruments. The creative process is further enriched by contributions from artists like Cindy Lee and Rivka Ravede of Spirit of the Beehive. Notably, for the first time in a Panda Bear solo album, all of his Animal Collective bandmates lend their talents to the project, creating a unique and collaborative sound.
