This rack hits the sweet spot between value and strength, making it a smart choice for control rooms, conference venues, production studios, and data-friendly workspaces where space is at a premium but protection is non-negotiable.

  • Economical standalone rack with solid sides provides reliable protection at a compelling price, delivering sturdy performance without compromising room or budget. The compact footprint makes it ideal for smaller rooms or controlled environments, while its solid-side construction keeps dust and debris at bay and maintains a clean, professional appearance.
  • Ganging capability allows partitioned, multi-bay installations to optimize thermal management, air flow, and cable routing. This flexibility means you can tailor a scalable rack system to growing equipment loads or evolving layouts, preserving independent access to each bay while maintaining a cohesive, streamlined configuration.
  • Seismic certified when used with ERK-Z4 brackets, giving you confidence that critical gear remains protected in environments with movement or vibration. This certification supports safer deployments in executive spaces, education facilities, or markets with stringent installation standards.
  • 18U height and 20-inch depth strike a practical balance between capacity and footprint, enabling you to mount a wide range of standard equipment while preserving space for clean cable management and adequate ventilation for cooling needs.
  • Versatile for AV, IT, and networking gear, the ERK rack supports common equipment types in a durable, organized enclosure. How to install Middle Atlantic 18RU ERK Series Rack

Installing your ERK rack is designed to be straightforward, enabling you to set up quickly and reliably. Follow these guidance points to ensure a solid, professional installation that supports long-term reliability and easy maintenance:

  • Choose an appropriate site with adequate ventilation and a level, stable floor. Ensure there is sufficient clearance for front and rear access, cable management, and any doors or panels you plan to use.
  • Unpack the rack and verify all components and hardware are present. If you intend to configure a multi-bay arrangement, prepare ERK-Z4 brackets and any accompanying connectors as part of the installation plan.
  • Assemble the rack in the chosen location, then install mounting rails and rear supports as required. Confirm that rails are plumb and securely fastened to the chassis to support the weight of installed equipment.
  • Mount equipment from the bottom up, prioritizing heavier items for stability. Route cables neatly using available cable management features, tie-down points, and cable trays to promote airflow and ease of service.
  • Close doors and verify operation, then perform a final check of all connections and airflow. If you’re creating a multi-bay configuration, attach ERK-Z4 brackets as needed and confirm that bays align properly for seamless maintenance access.

Sneaky little devil has a mind of it's own...
Warning: This can opener has a mind of its own and may run away from you. Mine disappeared from my kitchen a few days after I bought it. One night it was sitting on the counter, the next morning it was just gone. After 3 weeks hoping it would turn up, I finally gave up and bought a slightly different style (the Joseph Joseph compact handleless style can opener) so that I'll have two choices in case it does ever reappear. At least I only paid $7. I'm all seriousness, I only used this for a week, but it seemed like a nice no-frills can opener that was definitely worh the very lowe price I paid for it. This was my first time buying a can opener of this style (single handle which cuts on the outside of the can's rim), but it was easy and intuitive for me to figure out how to use it. Just remember, when the lid gets stuck to the can opener, twist the handle in the opposite direction and it'll come right off. This is actually a nice intentional feature, but it can be frustrating at first if you aren't used to it. This style of can opener has some tradeoffs with the traditional two-handled opener. Cutting the outside rim of the can leads to a smoother edge on the can and lid, but can also lead to some of the liquid inside the can spilling out. Personally, I think that that's a worthy tradeoff for lower risk of cutting myself and bleeding all over my food, but neither option is perfect so think about which potential frustration you'd rather avoid before you buy, because as far as I know there is no can opener that perfectly solves both problems.

Didn't Know What I Was Missing All This Time
I saw a random video about "safe cut"(or "safety") can openers and comparing them to the traditional can openers that are more known and popular. I was skeptical because it made no sense why something that performed like that wouldn't be the known and popular style of can opener. But I was intrigued enough to try one out and was very happy to see a AmazonBasics option. AmazonBasics proves to be worth the savings more often than not compared to their counterparts. I was happy to take a roll on it. The video was no gimmick, these things are amazing. No more lining up wheels, grip crushing levers, and clunky grinding cranking. No more sharp edges or lids falling into what you want to eat. The clean cut is amazing. Put it in place and start spinning, it grabs and does the job. The lid doesn't fall in. And there's no sharp edges. It's baffling that these aren't the "known" can opener. These are what you should think of when somebody says can opener, not the ones you do. This AmazonBasics Safe Cut Can Opener is built well and I expect it to last for many, many years. MAYBE it can't tackle every can. But I've yet to run into one I can't open with it. Couple that with the ever growing prevalence of manual pull tab cans and my traditional can opener hasn't been touched since I got this a year ago. And hopefully never will. I'm a convert. Safe cut is the right cut!

doesn't open can, leaves aluminum shavings
could not cut through rim of can at all, it barely even grabbed on even after trying on multiple cans. Just spun almost in place and left small aluminum shavings and slivers from the can on the counter. the mechanism does not compress and bit into the can enough to get through, just enough to tear it up
