SLEAZEGRINDER (UK) Italian teen or barely teen or at the very least liable to result in bare teens, trio toiling under the pouting at potty title of Toilet Power Pop (true or not, and I hope it is, they took to performing at house parties in the pissers) are a scintillatingly exuberant yahoo of drunken lollops down the stairs of Hotel Yorba with drums splashing in piss puddles like intellectually dishevelled bear cubs learning the finer arts of salmon fishing while guitars likewise splish, splash n’ take another carafe, shaking it down like Labradors on the aforemeantioned bears ursine ‘allucinogens as bits of Paint It Black (No Particular Girl To Love) and Adam and the Ants' Car Trouble (Lonesome Man) get mangled by some sort of George Formby captaining a pot-fuelled power boat with the Black Lips. Not just for the kazoo on Funny Guy or the wondrously skateboarding down the stairs harmonies, in the league of youthful vigour and endeavour this is about as far from Supergrass and Arctic gastric Monkeys as we are from a sober Shane MacGowan, which is absolutely, cuntarsingly fantastico. Dig It !  V'là un trio italien (Cagliari) qui balance des missiles accrocheurs pop-trash-shimmy en mode légèrement lo-fi et débraillé pas très éloigné des premiers pas de leurs compatriotes et amis The Mojomatics. Après un 45t sur Shake Your Ass Rds, Love Boat (feat. deux ex-Rippers) signe une douzaine de titres turbulents et marrants qui devraient faire remuer dans les garages. L'album (Imaginary Beatings Of Love sur Alien Snatch Rds) a été mis en boîte au Studio Outside Inside sous la houlette de Matteo Bordin (alias Mojomatt des... Mojomatics) et Emanuele Baratto des Movie Star Junkies. La configuration est peu commune (une gratte acoustique, un drum-kit minimal et une guitare tout ce qu'il y a d'électrique, les trois se partageant le micro) et le tempo donne dans l'overdrive permanent. On dirait BBQ croisant le fer avec un Mickey Hampshire rigolard sur un répertoire country et rhythm'n'blues mutant, le tout enluminé de mélodies garage-pop qui impactent l'oreille dès la première écoute. Un coup d'essai qui sent fort le coup de maître.

Bei einer Supersingle wie der von LOVE BOAT auf Shake Your Ass Records (siehe Ox #76), frage ich mich immer: Hat die Band nur diese beiden tollen Songs, oder können die auch ein Album mit solchen Hits voll machen? Antwort: Sie können! Das Debütalbum liegt jetzt vor und als ich es zum ersten Mal gehört habe, waren es zwar knackige minus 5° Celsius vor meiner Haustür, aber trotzdem wäre ich am liebsten tanzend und nur mit Badehose bekleidet auf die Straße gelaufen. Keine Angst, ich konnte gerade noch an mich halten, aber das Album läuft hier natürlich immer noch auf Dauerrotation. Ein Blumenstrauß aus zwölf poppigen Garagensongs, verfeinert mit einer Note Sixties-R'n'B, die einem im Nu die Sonne Sardiniens ins Wohnzimmer zaubern.Natürlich hört man auch den Einfluss von Bands wie den MOJOMATICS (Matt saß auch wieder an den Reglern) oder der KING KHAN & BBQ SHOW (erstes Album), aber LOVE BOAT haben durch das Zusammenspiel von Akustik- und Elektrogitarre irgendwie einen ganz eigenen Bandsound, den man auch sehr schnell wieder erkennt.Ich ärgere mich sehr, dass ich die Band auf ihrer soeben absolvierten Minitour durch Kleinstkneipen und Kellerlöcher verpasst habe, daher muss bis zur nächsten Konzertreise erstmal diese Platte ausreichen, um Mädchenherzen zum Schmelzen und junge Männer zum Abbruch ihres BWL-Studiums zu bringen.Wenn ihr versteht, was ich meine... Der Sommer kann kommen! (9/10)
