This is a pot from the residential mansion of John Jacob Astor IV, the richest man in the world at the time of his death on Titanic in 1912. Could this pot have possibly cooked “Astor’s Last Supper” at home? It has outstanding provenance as it was found in a steamer trunk marked JJA that belonged to his heir/grandson Ivan Obolensky, passed down from his mother Ava. The trunk and its contents were long forgotten about and abandoned by the family. 

Weighing 1.12lbs and measuring about 4” high and 5 1/2” in circumference with a 5 1/2” handle, this pot was manufactured by J.Ousden and is made of copper with a tin coating. It shows heavy use with dents, dings and scrapes throughout.

The outside has boldly stamped “JJ” and “A.O 11.” JJ stands for John Jacob Astor, while AO is believed to be his daughter/heir Ava Obolensky. Stamps identify the owners name, address and pot number to match the lid (not included) as was customary in wealthy kitchens during the Edwardian period. There is also a faint smaller stamp of “840.” The Astor Mansion was located at 840 5th Ave. in New York.

This new discovery somehow escaped notice through history and is now being offered to the public for the first time. The documentation and COA will be custom made for this relic. Serious inquiries only.
