Repelling insects is not just an external challenge, it's an internal one as well. Keeping yourself healthy and getting in the habit of eating certain foods will minimize your attractiveness to pests. Doing this along with applying a natural insect repellent should keep you safe all year. Repellents with DEET or other poisons may work but have proven to be extremely detrimental to you, your pets and the environment.
Many of the same practices we use for people work well with dogs too. Just remember, that some foods are harmful to dogs such as onions, tomatoes and garlic (in high doses). And cats can not tolerate many essential oils that naturally repel pests so be careful not to apply these products to your cats.
