Playing Dead: How Meditation Brough Me Back To Life

'A wit and wisdom that harkens back to an age of enlightenment' – RON PERLMAN, ACTOR

'A meditation guide from a man with a mind most unlikely to be conducive to meditation' – MANCHAN MAGAN, WRITER AND BROADCASTER

'In this beautifully written story, Robert Sheehan shares his journey from chaos to stillness and how meditation can lead us to a place of connection and calm' – DEB DANA, AUTHOR OF ANCHORED

From Robert Sheehan, star of Misfits and The Umbrella Academy, and host of hit podcast The Earth Locker, comes a heartfelt journey to inner peace.

In Playing Dead, Robert Sheehan shares intimate reflections on his search for purpose, looking back at the adventures – and misadventures – of his life so far, and sharing the profoundly transformative lessons he has learnt along the way.

Meditation is at the heart of Robert's route to spiritual awakening. In Playing Dead he reveals the turbulence in his life that led him to seek calm and tranquility within. A beautiful, meandering memoir reflecting a rich tapestry of experience, uncovering how spirituality has become his anchor in the constant moving tide. Combining storytelling with letters, poetry, childhood memories and thoughtful musings on fame.

Through this compelling description of his quest for inner stillness, Robert shows us how we can welcome a practice of meditation into our own lives, with tools for soothing your nervous system and focusing a fretful mind. In a world where our attention is constantly up for grabs, Playing Dead shows how we can give our souls the deep rest we crave.

'To spend any time immersing oneself in the ruminations of Robert Sheehan is to experience a wit and wisdom that harkens back to an age of enlightenment, all too rarely seen in modern times. Do yourself a giant favour; immerse yourself!' - Ron Perlman, Actor

'A meditation guide from a man with a mind most unlikely to be conducive to meditation. Robert’s effervescence in life and exuberant immersion in characters on screen make him an unlikely meditator… and, as a result, an ideal guide for others curious about exploring the practice.' - Manchan Magan, Writer and Broadcaster

'This book on meditation had me feeling zen enough to consider giving my chaotic mind a retirement package! If serenity could be bottled, Rob Sheehan would be a millionaire – consider me sold on the magic of meditation!' - Steve Blackman, screenwriter and producer

'Playing Dead shows us the power of a regulated nervous system to transform our human experience. In this beautifully written story, Robert Sheehan shares his journey from chaos to stillness and how meditation can lead us to a place of connection and calm.' - Deb Dana, Author of Anchored

'Playing Dead is a beautiful and thought-provoking book showing how our raw, messy human experience can be transformed by meditation.' - Maude Hirst, actor and meditation teacher

Not a Users Guide
Format: Paperback
Although many readers may find this book useful, it describes a particular approach to Powerpoint. It is not anything like a comprehensive users guide.

Just linear
Format: Paperback
I appreciate that it helps to organize the chaos of information, but I just used the template verbatim with my manager and it did not go very well. He said this linear approach does not work anymore with high-level corporate audiences. They want to cut right to the chase and start to dig into the deep details. This layout with simple images, even if you just pull away the map and anchor slides, makes the storytelling too much like a story, not giving enough credit to the speed at which certain audiences can and do process data on a slide. It was an interesting exercise and I still think this linear layout works in some cases. Just not if you are trying to communicate business case or other C-suite type of information.
