In the distance beyond another member of the party rides across a stretch of sand towards a low sand dune. A few clumps of qassis (sedge) grow on the side of the dune and those beyond it. In the distance the low rolling dunes continue along the horizon below a cloudless sky. This image was taken during Wilfred Thesiger's journey from Al Ain to Liwa oasis, Al Dhafra and Baynunah sands in November and December 1948.
