Vlak bij de plaats delict vinden ze op de bodem van een meer een tas. De inhoud? Botten, schedels en vier versnipperde lichamen. Welke zieke geest heeft dit op zijn geweten?

Ondertussen tikt de tijd angstvallig door. Het onbekende griepvirus verspreidt zich in rap tempo door heel Frankrijk en eist nu ook menselijke slachtoffers. Als de oorzaak niet snel gevonden wordt, zal de pandemie zich niet langer tot Frankrijk beperken. De zaak krijgt opeens een zenuwslopend karakter, waarbij de gehele mensheid gevaar loopt.
