Het kristalliseert in een hexagonale (trigonale) kristalstructuur, typisch voor kwarts. Het kan gevonden worden in de vorm van goed gevormde kristallen met zes zijden of als massa's en geodes. Bergkristal is transparant en kleurloos, waardoor het gemakkelijk te onderscheiden is van andere kwartsvariteiten.

Bergkristal valt onder de kwartsfamilie. Het is chemisch gezien zuiver kwarts, zonder de aanwezigheid van extra insluitsels die kleur zouden geven. Het kristalliseert in een hexagonale (trigonale) kristalstructuur, typisch voor kwarts. Het kan gevonden worden in de vorm van goed gevormde kristallen met zes zijden of als massa's en geodes. Bergkristal is transparant en kleurloos, waardoor het gemakkelijk te onderscheiden is van andere kwartsvariëteiten. Het heeft een glasachtige glans en een hardheid van 7 op de Mohs-schaal, waardoor het vrij krasbestendig is.

Het wordt gevonden in vele verschillende geologische omgevingen, waaronder igneuze, metamorfe, en sedimentaire gesteenten. Bergkristal wordt wereldwijd aangetroffen, met belangrijke vindplaatsen in Brazilië, de Verenigde Staten, de Alpen, en Madagaskar.

Vanwege zijn helderheid en schoonheid wordt bergkristal vaak gebruikt in sieraden en als een verzamelsteen. Het is ook populair in de optische industrie vanwege zijn lichtbrekende eigenschappen.

Well-written and it really laid out all of the details of how this battle unfolded. I listed to the audio-book, and it was helpful to have the PDF to see a map. How the soldiers on each side endured the battles in the Pacific Theater is beyond me. Man's inhumanity to man that result in this battle outlined here is depressing, but also the sacrifice of those called on to endure and suffer through that inhumanity is equally inspiring and humbling to those whose lives are so comfortable in comparison.

If Ww2 interest u at all then u want to read this book. I have read the other books on this subject ( so why read another one?) well what i luv about this book is that because so much time has passed that most all of the people in this book are gone & so much more info has been released about these battles, that the combatants ( especially the higher officers are written about as if they are human (mistakes & warts & all) & not like they were all Bull Halsey type Gods which they were certainly not as in most all the books released within the 1st 30 yrs of the war. This makes for a much different & more interesting story about these battles than even the original books on the subject. You come to understand the where & whyfores better, by knowing the real true strenghts & weakness's & fears that drove these men. Hey they are all the bravest of heroes to me. But the were not perfect, & because of this, mistakes were made, that were really not acknowledged or maybe not even known about in early books on WW2
