In Sheriff of Nottingham zijn spelers sluwe handelaren die door middel van bluffen en smeergeld de stad moeten zien binnen te komen. Elke ronde speelt een nieuwe speler de Sheriff die op zoek is naar smokkelwaar en boetes moet betalen voor het inspecteren van eerlijke handelaren, terwijl de handelaren die betrapt worden op smokkelen een boete moeten betalen.
