De 1853 Paulsen Reproductie-schaakstukken zijn vernoemd naar Louis Paulsen (jan 1833 tot aug 1891), die tijdens de jaren 1860 en 1870 tot de vijf beste spelers ter wereld behoorde. Gebaseerd op het traditionele Staunton-ontwerp, zijn de schaakstukken met de hand vervaardigd uit massief ebbenhout en buxushout. De koning, met een hoogte van 8,9 cm, wordt samen met alle andere schaakstukken minutieus gesneden en perfect afgewerkt. De bodems (tamelijk breed voor deze hoogte) worden vervolgens met vilt bekleed zodat uw schaakbord tijdens het spel niet beschadigd raakt.

Om deze historische schaakstukken aan te vullen raden wij u aan naar schaakborden vanaf 53 cm te kijken met grotere vakken om de bredere bodems te huisvesten. De meeste houtsoorten die voor deze schaakborden worden gebruikt, passen goed bij de ebbenhouten en buxushouten schaakstukken.
