Australië was nog grotendeels onontdekt in 1859 en dit is op de kaart goed te zien aan de witte vlakken verder van de kust. In Australië was rond het midden van de 19e eeuw ook een goldrush en de belangrijkste gebieden waar goud gevonden werd staan ook op de kaart. Ook de routes van verschillende ontdekkingsreizigers staan op de kaart en wat erg leuk is zijn de commentaren die hier en daar op de kaart staan als "Undurchdringliches gebusch, das innere ist unbekannt" & "Unfruchtbare Gegend". Wat kennis van Duits maakt de kaart dus nog leuker.
