‘Elstar’ is een populaire, smaakvolle appelvariëteit die middelgrote, knapperige appels geeft met een fijne balans tussen zoet en zuur. De laagstam groeit compact (ca. 2–3 m), ideaal voor kleinere tuinen of potten. De vruchten zijn sappig en aromatisch, perfect om vers te eten of te verwerken in desserts, taarten en sap. Groeit het best in voedzame, goed doorlatende grond op een zonnige plek en geeft al snel na aanplant een rijke oogst.

Wat is een laagstam boom?
Laagstam betekent dat de boom geënt is op een traag groeiende onderstam waardoor de boompjes sneller vruchten dragen en minder hoog worden. De voordelen hiervan zijn dat ze geschikt zijn voor kleinere (moes)tuinen, dat je dus meer soorten in dezelfde ruimte kunt kweken. Ook is het handig dat je makkelijk, veilig en zonder lange ladder kunt oogsten.

Tips en verzorging:

  • Aanplanten: doordat de boompjes geleverd worden in pot kunnen ze het hele jaar door geplant worden. Plant bij voorkeur in het najaar, dan is de bodem nog warm en vochtig waardoor de boompjes goed zullen inwortelen in de bodem. Planten die in het najaar geplant zijn hebben een beter ontwikkeld wortelstelsel dan planten die pas in het voorjaar geplant worden. 
  • Volle grond of potten: je kan alle laagstam fruitbomen ook telen in potten, hoe groter de pot hoe beter ze het zullen doen. Ze zullen altijd beter groeien en meer vruchten produceren in de volle grond.
  • Steun: geef het eerste jaar steun met een paal. Laagstam bomen zijn makkelijk te plukken en blijven compact en goed beheersbaar.
