Op 18 november 2019 is het precies honderd jaar geleden dat de grondlegger van het Nederlandse socialisme Ferdinand Domela Nieuwenhuis (1846-1919) overleed. Om zijn persoon en zijn strijd te herdenken en om zijn gedachtegoed te vieren is 2019 uitgeroepen tot het officiële Domela-jaar. Als geboren en getogen Fries in het dorp Surhuisterveen kent Talma de verhalen over Domela als geen ander. Meindert schreef al op de middelbare school een scriptie over de armoedige roots van Domela. Reden genoeg dus voor cultheld Meindert Talma om zijn nieuwe album te baseren op het leven van dit zowel geliefde als gehate figuur. Eerder maakte hij al muzikale levensverhalen over onder meer dammer Jannes van der Wal en kunstenaar H.N. Werkman. Voor zijn Domela-album haalt Talma alles uit de kast - hij nam het op met zijn volledige band, inclusief koor en strijkersensemble. De Domela Passie telt 16 nummers en verschijnt als een 44 pagina’s tellend boek met daarin alle teksten, veel beeldmateriaal en achterin gestoken een cd.
