Discover a deep and insightful exploration of the ongoing wars and conflicts in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) with 'War and Conflict in the Middle East and North Africa' by Ariel Ahram. This essential read unpacks the complexity behind the exceptionally violent nature of the region, offering a comprehensive analysis of how historical factors have shaped contemporary conflicts in Iraq, Libya, Israel/Palestine, Yemen, and Syria. Delve into the evolution of MENA's conflicts from civil wars and insurgencies to traditional interstate struggles, understanding how geopolitical factors and resource dependencies have perpetuated cycles of violence.Ahram critically examines the strategies employed by rulers to maintain power and how these tactics influence military recruitment and training. With a focus on the catastrophic wars of the 2010s, this book addresses the intervention of global powers such as the US and Russia, alongside regional influences from countries like Iran and Saudi Arabia.
'War and Conflict in the Middle East and North Africa' not only analyzes the causes of these brutal conflicts but also considers the prospects for peace, drawing attention to the gap between local peacebuilding efforts and international mediation initiatives. Perfect for students of peace and security studies, MENA politics, or anyone seeking a more nuanced understanding of the region’s challenges beyond the headlines, this book is a must-have resource.

Description:
For much of the last half century, the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) has seemed the outlier in global peace. Today Iraq, Libya, Israel/Palestine, Yemen, and Syria are not just countries, but synonyms for prolonged and brutal wars. But why is MENA so exceptionally violent? More importantly, can it change?   Exploring the causes and consequences of wars and conflicts in this troubled region, Ariel Ahram helps readers answer these questions. In Part I, Ahram shows how MENA™s conflicts evolved with the formation of its states. Violence varied from civil wars and insurgencies to traditional interstate conflicts and affected some countries more frequently than others. The strategies rulers employed to stay in power constrained how they recruited, trained, and equipped their armies. Part II explores dynamics that trap the region in conflict”oil dependence, geopolitical interference, and embedded identity cleavages. The catastrophic wars of the 2010s reflect the confounding effects of these traps, culminating in state collapse and intervention from the US and Russia, as well as regional powers like Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE. Finally, Ahram considers the possibilities of peace, highlighting the disjuncture between local peacebuilding and national and internationally-backed mediation.   War and Conflict in the Middle East and North Africa will be an essential resource for students of peace and security studies and MENA politics, and anyone wanting to move beyond headlines and soundbites to understand the historical and social roots of MENA™s conflicts.

My favorite!
Best face sunscreen I've ever tried and I've tried a ton.
I have very sensitive skin and I've left this sunscreen on overnight and it has not caused any issues no breakouts.
I wish it had no fragrance but it doesn't smell the worst and my skin doesn't seem to mind.
My husband refuses to wear traditional sunscreen but he loves this one because of how light it feels on your face.

Lightweight, fast application
My go-to face sunscreen now. My favorite for rushed mornings when I don’t have much time. Tried a bunch of options including dove men care, Tula, juice beauty, cerave, laroche posay, and lumin. This and Jaxon Lane Rain or Shine are my favorites. Neither makes your skin feel dry or coated in stuff. This one smells like cinnamon to me. Slight eye burn as the alcohol evaporates, but doesn’t get into my eyes or burn during the day. Pretty good discount on Amazon sometimes!

Lightweight but questionable coverage
I traditionally used the Coola face lotion but had switched to the spray for my body so I figured I’d try the face spray. It doesn’t smell as bad as a lot of the reviews say it does. It also doesn’t really smell “tropical” for that matter, but it isn’t unpleasant. It sprays evenly and doesn’t feel heavy or greasy. My only complaint is I still got a little burnt. Full disclosure: I’m super fair and have to reapply every 30-60 minutes, even without getting wet. So maybe it’s not meant for people with as pale a complexion as me. Or I have to constantly reapply, or put the lotion underneath. But otherwise I really liked it and really like Coola products.

Must have for a hot summer!
My mom saw my aunt using it and was impressed, so she bought it for herself and my sister-in-law. They both love how gentle it feels on the skin and that it’s organic and effective.

Too smelly
I love the idea of a clear spray sunscreen but my daughter says it stings her eyes and the smell gives me an instant headache. I really wanna like this but it’s a no go for me
